MARS

Mars, the red planet, has been a source of mystery and wonder all throughout human history. Its baleful red glare has always shone in our night skies, giving birth to numerous legends and flights of fantasy.

Today, more than forty years after the first spacecraft flyby's of our neighbor world, we know that Mars is an arid, lifeless, alien desert with a thin, unbreathable atmosphere. Yet it still draws us inexorably. More interplanetary missions have been launched to Mars than any other world, and it is the focus of a massive, coordinated scientific effort to understand its geology and possibilities for microbial life. Some even believe, centuries hence, that Mars could become the human race's second great home in the cosmos.
